LE CHEMIN

Le chemin suit sa course véritable

à travers l'obscurité et l'ombre.

Ni l'une ni l'autre n'est responsable du désespoir.

Le sage a dit :

"Les cinq couleurs aveuglent l'oeil.

Les cinq sons assourdissent l'oreille.

Les cinq saveurs gâtent le goût."

Ainsi l'homme sage est-il guidé

par ce qu'il ressent

et non par ce qu'il voit.

Quand nos sens sont troublés ou submergés,

nos sentiments les plus profonds

peuvent nous maintenir sur le chemin.

THE WAY

The way runs true through darkness, through shadow;

neither is cause for despair.

The sage has said:

"The five colors blind the eye.

The five tones deafen the ear.

The five flavors dull the taste."

Therefore the wise man is guided

by what he feels

not by what he sees.

When our senses are confused

and overpowered,

our deeper feelings may yet

keep us on the way.
